Berkowitz Approved to Participate in Domestic Relations Pilot Project

David Berkowitz has qualified to participate in a pilot project of limited representation in domestic relations cases in Douglas County by attending a seminar on July 10, 2009 and being approved by the Chief Judge of the Seventh Judicial District. The project, sponsored by the Kansas Supreme Court, allows attorneys to represent clients in domestic relations cases in specific areas. The attorney and client would agree on what areas the attorney will be representing the client. This agreement must be in writing and signed by both parties. Some of the possible areas would be support orders, parenting time orders, preparation of pleadings and other documents, appearances for contested custody, etc. This type of representation will allow for a reduction in overall attorney fees for people who might otherwise try to represent themselves, particularly in those aspects of the case that are technical and where experience particularly counts.
